She licks her puppies - Okay, don't panic, she's not trying to eat her puppies, but she's actually cleaning her puppies and removing the sac. REMINDER: ONCE THE DOG IS STILL GIVING BIRTH, DO NOT TOUCH HER AND AVOID LOOKING AT HER IN THE CAGE OR BOX. 2. Her nipples and the vaginal part seems to get larger. REMINDER: IF THE DOG SEEMS TO BE CALM, IT'S GOOD, AND IF SHE'S CATCHING BREATH, CALL A VETERINARIAN. (Same with the puppies) 3. She goes round with her puppies inside - Don't panic, she's not sitting on her puppies. She's giving them HEAT. REMINDER: FOR SUPPORT, ADD A LIGHT BULB (60 WATTS). DO NOT LET THE PUPPIES OR THE DOG REACH THE LIGHT BULB. That's all, and call your vet for healthy puppies. Here are what you can notice after a dog gives birth:

Every dam should be taken to her vet for a postpartum check-up 12 - 24 hours after delivery. She also needs an injection of oxytocin to make sure she expels everything from her uterus and it returns to normal size. After having birth, they should be weak, but concerned about their pups and readily eating and drinking as usual. If anything is not normal she should be seen. A good idea is to feed the momma dog puppy food (dry) until she is done nursing (around 4-5 weeks).
